Because of our relationship with BRAC and our own Chicks Against Child Brides program, we are always on the lookout for other great companies and organizations that also promote women’s empowerment. There is a wonderful non-profit right here in our city of Austin that has been making a difference in the lives of girls since 1996. The organization is called, GENaustin – Girls Empowerment Network.
GENaustin’s mission is to support and guide girls to make wise choices as they navigate the unique pressures of girlhood. Their programs include afterschool clubs, workshops and an annual conference called “We Are Girls” for girls and the adults that care about them. GENaustin also has an innovative program working with girls who are involved or at high-risk of becoming involved with the juvenile justice system.
We, at Catherine Nicole continue to uphold our promise of giving back to the global community. A portion of every sale on catherinenicole.com goes to Chicks Against Child Brides, our program in partnership with BRAC’s Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program which gives microloans to girls from impoverished communities to start their own businesses.
We wanted to share some exciting news from BRAC’s ELA program. They have just opened their newest ELA center in Jacmel, Haiti.
BRAC says, “The idea behind ELA is to create “safe spaces” for learning and socializing, opening gateways to social and financial empowerment. Opportunities like these are limited for young Haitians, especially girls, and much sought after in a country still recovering from the 2010 earthquake.”
Last spring, Team Catherine Nicole gathered encouraging letters from friends and family to be sent to BRAC’s Empowerment and Livlihood for Adolescent (ELA) programme center in Uganda. They went something like this…
